Dear NSIS Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at North Strabane Intermediate School. I am excited and honored to serve as your child's principal, and I look forward to year filled with learning, growth, and success for all of our students. Whether you are returning family or new to the Canon-McMillan School District, we are excited that you and your child(ren) are part of our school community.
The Intermediate level is an exciting time for students as they transition from elementary school. NSIS is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every student is valued and encouraged to strive to reach their full potential. We believe that every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. NSIS teachers and staff is passionate about supporting each student and helping them reach their full potential. Our focus is on helping students become life-long learners who are creative, curious, resilient, and empathetic towards others. Our goal is to help students understand the value of building positive relationship with those around them.
This year, we will continue to focus on providing a quality knowledge-building reading program using CKLA in grade 5 and Amplify in grade 6. We want our students to read to learn by diving deep into a variety of topics around geography, history, science, and the arts. For example, in 5th grade students will learn about the Reinnsance by discussing historical events, artists, sculptures, and famous places. In 6th grade, students will take a deep into the infamous Yellow Fever disease. They will learn about its origin and how it spread person to person causing an epidemic.
As a school community, we belive that strong partnership between school and home is essential for student success, and we encourage you to be actively involved in yoru child's education. We welcome your feedback, questions, and participation in school events led by our Parent Activity Association. In May, we look forward to reaching out to families to share their careers with our students during our annual Career Day. Together, we can create a supportive community where every child feels valued and motivated to learn.
We look forward to an exciting and memorable year, filled with students making new friendships, engaging in meaningful experiences, and building a strong foundation of knowledge.
Sincerely,
Dr. Abbondanza
Principal
